At a Singapore Math® parent presentation in 2001, I had an epiphany. My young sons were now learning math using this imported, world-class curriculum at the first elementary school in Phoenix to fully adopt Primary Math. Seeing their unbridled enjoyment and growing understanding of mathematics inspired me to volunteer my time in the classroom, complete my teaching degree and sign on with this exceptional school.
Since that time, I have taught 3rd & 6th grades, traveled to Singapore and coached math teams that competed at the National Math Bee. Working with Singapore Math® materials in the classroom, I realized the impact it could have for all learners and became determined to share this well-designed curriculum with more than just the math students I taught each day.
I founded SMARTTraining with partners Tricia Salerno and Sherri Adler to champion Singapore Mathematics and expand its reach to elementary schools and children, who deserve the best education, anywhere. Although I am no longer part of their team, I continue to work with schools and teachers to make math from Singapore work for every child in every classroom.
I am a member of:
- Association of Mathematics Educators (AME-Singapore)
- National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
- Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics (CCTM)
- National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics(NCSM)
