Dear Sir
Thank you very much for putting up the top school exam papers on the website. I really appreciate it as I have been printing them out for my neighbour's children who could not afford to buy the ones from the market. This year, I have realised that only the Raffles 2009 papers were listed but not the rest of the schools. Plse advise. Sincere thanks for the time and effort in collating all these papers.

Best,
Adeline Lim

The first part has easy numbers and you can draw the nice picture:

aaaaaaaa|bbb

so A/B is 70%

But I was stumped to find a nice way to reduce A to 60%. I had to pull out algebra:

A/(3+A) = 60/100

100A = 60(3+A)     [cross mult]

100A = 180 + 60A

40A = 180

     A = 4.5 kg

total = A+3 = 7.5 kg

Should I think of this as "cheating" or is algebra allowed?
